Born to missionary parents in China, Eric Liddell's life led him to boarding school in England, then on to the university of Edinburgh in Scotland. He was famous for his sprinting, and earned a gold medal in the 400-metre race in the 1924 Olympics. He returned to China as a missionary, and died while serving others in a Japanese-run internment camp.
