In the early 1800s, a girl named Karana spent eighteen years alone on an island off of California. Karana faced a pack of wild dogs that killed her younger brother, stayed on her guard against Aleutian sea otter hunters, and constantly had to search for food. The story is a testimony to her resilience and grit.
