Skateboard. Longboard. Hoverboard. It’s the evolution of a speedy sport that sends thousands of young people whizzing around—first on wheels and now on air. This fall the first real-deal hoverboard goes on sale.
The Hendo Hoverboard uses magnetics to float about an inch off the ground. Cool, huh? The bad news is Hendo must be recharged every 15 minutes and works only on metal surfaces. And the really bad news for anyone hoping for a hoverboard under the Christmas tree is the price: $10,000. Hoverboards will likely appear only in skate parks.
Hendo’s creators believe their technology may one day be used to move containers or hold buildings above the ground during earthquakes. For now, it’s all about the free-floating fun.
