In spite of intense tension over a rash of deadly violence in Israel recently, organizers say this year’s Tel Aviv Fashion Week was a smashing success.

The show came at a time of escalating tensions that began with clashes at a Jerusalem holy site last month and quickly spread across Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. Ten Israelis have been killed in a string of attacks. On the Palestinian side, 48 people have been killed by Israeli fire, 27 of them identified by Israel as attackers.

Israeli designs caught the attention of foreign buyers for stores in both the United States and Europe. The event drew large crowds each day last week. Analysts see this as a sign that Israel’s small fashion industry is gaining global popularity.

Gadi Elimelech’s fashion inspired by the world of insects was a crowd favorite. Elimelech studied butterflies and ladybugs under a microscope and then interpreted their gorgeous designs on silk, chiffon and velvet fabrics. Yet another evidence that the best design is God’s design.

“O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.” (Psalm 104:24)
