Rah! Rah! Sis-boom-bah! These performers are always peppy. They’re Murata Manufacturing’s wireless robotic cheerleaders.

Murata debuted the robot squad at CEATEC, an electronics expo in Japan. The 14-inch cheerleaders clutch color-changing pom-pons and glide on round bases—hopefully without bumping into each other. Their coordinated movements are thanks to high-tech gyroscopes and sensors.

But the cute bots do more than boost spirit. They show off Murata’s cutting-edge software. Who knows? Maybe the technology used in these cheerleaders will appear in tomorrow’s car safety systems.
Sure, the cheering routines are well-timed, but can the robots do high kicks?
