On Saturday evening, President Donald Trump announced that the United States military had conducted a “spectacular military success”—a direct attack inside Iran. B-2 “stealth” bombers were dispatched to strike three key nuclear facilities. The President says that the sites have been “completely obliterated.”
Both President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that Iran must respond with peace to avoid further show of military strength. President Trump boldly declared that the United States and Israel operated in a strong partnership with the goal of limiting Iran’s nuclear capacities.
The sites targeted were located at Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz—all in central Iran. Fordo’s heavily fortified underground bunker reportedly could hold up to 3,000 centrifuges, used to enrich uranium. A 30,000-pound “bunker busting” bomb called the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator carried by the B-2 was deployed to penetrate the concrete facility. Once the concrete structure was breached, the GBU-57 exploded underground, destroying the bunker from the inside.
The President also reported that all American personnel had returned safely after completing the mission.
Israel had acted more than a week earlier, beginning strikes on Iran designed to eradicate the country’s air defenses and damage its nuclear enrichment facilities.
President Trump addressed the United States in a televised appearance on Saturday evening with Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth standing alongside. In his brief comments, the President warned Iran: “There will either be peace or there will be tragedy for Iran, far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days.” He said that while the nuclear facilities the United States struck on Saturday were the most “lethal” and the most difficult to reach, “there are many targets left” in Iran.
However, he firmly stated, “If peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed, and skill,” and that “future attacks would be far greater and a lot easier.”
Iran’s nuclear agency on Sunday (Iranian time; Saturday U.S. time) confirmed attacks took place on its Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz atomic sites but insists its work will not be stopped.
Pray for wisdom for world leaders seeking to contain evil. Pray the people of Iran might one day again know freedom from oppressive rulers.
